Mount Ophir (Golden Mountain) Gunung Ledang..!?!

Gunung Ledang (Ledang Mountain aka Mount Ophir) is a mountain locates in a district of Ledang, state of Johor Darul Takzim, Malaysia. Located nearby a small town name Asahan, state of Melaka. (near to the border of these two states). With the height of 1,276 meters, Gunung Ledang is the highest mountain in the South of Peninsular Malaysia.
If you are at the peak of the mountain with the clear weather, the beautiful scenery of Strait of Malacca & Sumatera, Indonesia can be seen clearly.

Gunung Ledang belives to be one of the forest which is very rich of the many species of trees that very difficult to find at anywhere else in the world. It has the area of Dipterokarp Hill forest & Top Dipterokarp forest.

Gunung Ledang normally related to the very famous legendry of Puteri Gunung Ledang (Gunung Ledang Princess).

There are severals popular statements related about the original name where the Gunung Ledang get the name. One of the old days history had mentioned that Gunung Ledang was the place which have so many gold storage, which interact so many Chinese trademen as far as from Greece & China.

The name 'Ophir' itself was origin name from Ibrani language. At the 14th Century, the Chinese sailor which always travel thru & flow at the Strait of Malacca then called that mountain as "Kim Sua" which means 'Golden Mountain'. There was another source stated that the Jawa during the rule government of Majapahit empire was named that mountain as 'Gunong Ledang', meanings 'the mountain from far away'.

..........How to capture Gunung Ledang..?!?

@1. From the PLUS North-South highway, exit at Tangkak
than straight to Jementah/Segamat on the left side you
will find Sagil, next  10 km from Tangkak towards Segamat
you will find the ‘Ayer Panas’ waterfall on the left,
the rubber trees and also the Ledang Baharu Estate.
From the waterfall then, you can follow
the track of Sagil towards to the peak of Gunung Ledang.
This route is most popular and it takes about 5-6 hours
to reach the peak.

@2. From Asahan. Melaka, the right entrance the
straight towards Gunung Ledang. The legendry of
Hang Tuah believe had been using this route long
time ago for the very important assignment
commanded by the Sultan of Malacca.
You can start the journey from the pond
of Kampung Asahan.

@3. From Tangkak to Segamat, there is one road to the
RTM radio station, TM station and the water dam
at the peak of Gunung Ledang but this road is strictly
closed for publics.
